Eating Habits

The older two kids have always been somewhat text book when it comes to eating.  We started at 6 months, they ate mushed foods and besides a few dislikes, most foods were eaten happily.
The baby is definitely different.  Starting at 6 months we tried a variety of foods and each time he would eat a few bites only to then battle trying to get the spoon to his mouth and finally he would end up with the spoon in hand flinging food all over.  At times I just handed him the bowl in hopes that some of it would end up in his mouth after smearing it all over his face.
Given that he puts EVERYTHING in his mouth when he walks around it was somewhat surprising to me and I finally decided to try letting him feed himself.  Amazingly this was exactly what he wanted and eating took off.  Of course when you have no teeth and you want food that can be picked up, it makes feeding a little more challenging. I'm starting to have a few items in my arsenal though so we're progressing well.

The other interesting fact is that the kid LOVES flavor.  Those kid treats that are made by companies like Gerber that look like Cheerios are completely uninteresting to him.  If you give him some Chicken Paprikash he's all over it though.  So very different from the other kids...
